Recipe of the Week- Smoothies!

 Blueberry and Spinach Smoothie

This has actually been my recipe of the past few months. I love it because it is so simple and is packed full of cancer-fighting antioxidants from not only the blueberries, but the spinach as well. The combination of blueberries and spinach just hit a spot for me that no other fruit/veggie combo has thus far in my smoothie-making career! I get serious stomach pains after eating bananas which is a bummer because they give such a nice creamy texture to my green drinks that no other fruit really can. And I'm not a huge fan of super sour drinks- so I've had to get creative. I was thoroughly pleased by this new combination- it's the perfect amount of tart and creaminess. Anytime I need a boost of greens in my day, I whip this bad boy up.

This recipe can be easily manipulated to include flax seed, avocado, any nut butter, protein powder, hemp or chia seeds to make it more hearty and robust as a meal replacement.

Ingredients (keepin' it real simple here):
1 cup of frozen organic blueberries (these make it icy enough so I don't have to add ice)
2 generous handfuls of spinach
Your choice of milk quantity depending on how thick or thin you like your smoothies- I use soymilk
Just a splash of your choice of 100% juice- I use orange juice

Optional:
(in any variation or combination that you please)
1 table spoon flax seed
2 tablespoons peanut butter
half avocado
2 scoops protein powder
2 table spoons hemp or chia seeds

Preparation:
Add all ingredients into a blender and enjoy!

  1. i hear that blending the greens and liquids first helps make the smoothies creamier. I tried it last night but I couldn't really tell. The smoothie was kind of a fail overall but I'm going to try again!
